Richard L. (Dick) Aitken, 88, died on December 9, 2010 at Swedish/American Heart Hospital in Rockford, IL. Dick was born at the Old Nichols Hospital in Battle Creek, MI., on October 3, 1922 to Leon L. and Della M. (Frost) Aitken. Dick graduated from Lakeview High School in 1941. He served in the Army during WWII as a medical technician at Percy Jones General Hospital where he met his wife, Ruth L. (Anderson) Aitken, an Army nurse who served on Okinawa. They were married in Rockford, IL on February 16, 1946. Dick worked as a control designer at Ingersoll Milling Machine Co. for 36 years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and sang in the choir. He was also a member of Primetime Friends, Men's Ministry and Ingersoll Retirees. Dick will be remembered by family and friends for his warm personality, his contagious laugh and compassion for all. He is survived by his wife, Ruth L. Aitken; a son, John R. (Mary) Aitken of Bettendorf, Iowa, and a daughter, Kathryn (Jim) Rasch of Rockford; one grandson, one granddaughter and one great grandson, all of Bettendorf.; a sister, Dorothy J. (Ernest) Howard and two nephews, David B. (Brenda) Howard and Michael A. (Linda) Howard and a niece, Ann C. (Richard) Thorpe, all of Battle Creek. He was predeceased by his parents. Services were held at Zion Lutheran Church on December 14. Private burial.
