My 2nd great grandmother-was the mother of 6 children and the wife of Pastor Georg H. Bartling. She was born in Indiana to Theodore F Schlorff and Gesina A. Backhaus/Backus in 1869. They married in May of 1889 in Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois and 9 months later my great grandmother Viola was born. A baby boy died early~George H at only a year old. Husband Georg contracted Gastric Fever in 1907 and died not long after in September. Louise was left to care for and raise 5 children alone. She took many jobs to care for her children. Many years later she moved to California to be with her sister Rose after her husband died and lived there for the rest of her life. She died 2 years later.
