Hartford Press, 9/15/1911

This community was greatly shocked yesterday morning to learn that George Alton had passed away at his home during the night. Mr. Alton took sick August 17th, with an internal poisoning, his illness having a typhoid nature. Mrs. Alton was ill with the same trouble, and had been up only three days when her husband's death occurred. Mr. Alton was supposed to be recovering nicely, and sat up for a while Wednesday morning. In the afternoon, he again got up, but was taken suddenly very weak and was forced to return to bed. He was given immediate care and medical attention, but in spite of everything that could be done passed away at a quarter past twelve that night.

George Alton was born in this city May 30, 1871. His entire life was spent here. He was a painter by trade and was working with Frank Wienefelt when taken sick. He was an industrious young man of good habits, kind and thoughtful to his family, and respected by everyone.

Mr. Alton was a member of the Hartford Fire department, and served a number of years a hose captain of Section No. 1, which position he held at his death.

The deceased was married in this city November 15, 1896 to Miss Ivy Crowfoot, who survives him with four children, Viola, Mildred, Florence and Raymond, the latter five years of age. He also leaves one brother, Charles of this city, and one sister, Mrs. Melinda Culver of Fox Lake.

The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of all our people.

The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock the services to be held at the Congregational church. The pastor fo the Methodist church at Neosho will officiate. The firemen will attend in uniform.

All members of the Hartford Fire department are requested to turn out tomorrow afternoon for the funeral of George Alton. Assemble at city hall in uniform at one o'clock.
