Cynthia C. Brode, of Harrington, gained her angel wings on Wednesday evening, September 16, from the Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, she was 65. Cindy was born on the Eglin Air Force Base in Florida to the late William R. and Manetta Carrow.

Cindy worked at the Genesis Silver Lake Center in Dover as a nurse. She loved her job tremendously and thought the world of her co-workers, and her patients as well. Cindy also enjoyed working the nurses station at the Delaware State Fair, which she has done for the past 25 years.

To say that her family was her life, is truly an understatement. Cindy was involved with all her sons activities and sporting events from school. She continued this practice with her grandchildren, who were her life, and made sure to attend their dance recitals and sporting events. When her sons got married, she welcomed their spouses with open arms and treated them like daughters, and thankful to have shopping buddies. She was the greatest wife that a husband could ask for. She was a strong supporter of everything that her husband Harold was involved with, whether vocation, political, or civic organization. She truly helped make him the man he is today with all of her encouragement, support, and love.

Cindy gave of herself selflessly not only to her family, but also to the community. It was well known that Cindy was a great cook. Sunday dinners were a staple at her house. She loved to cook for her family, her co-workers at Genesis, or any cop, firefighter, or friend who happened to stop by. It was rare to hear her complain or say "no". With her husband and sons volunteer firemen, she was used to them heeding the sound of the whistle at any hour of the day. She supported them with this endeavor, so much so that whenever she heard that whistle blow, she would rush to her sons homes if needed to watch her grandchildren, while they answered the call.

Cindy will be remembered as the most giving, caring, and beautiful person there is. It goes without saying that she was a great wife, mother, and grandmother. She taught her family how to love unconditionally and her dedication to them will forever be missed.

Cindy was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, and a life member of the Harrington Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.

Cindy is preceded in death by a nephew, James Pritchard.

She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Harold K. Brode of Harrington, sons, W. Derrick (Elizabeth) Brode of Harrington, Kenny (Tammi) Brode of Harrington, Robert Glenn (Anna) Brode of Harrington; brother, William "Skip" Carrow II of Clayton; sister, Cathy (James) Pritchard of Dover; and seven grandchildren, Halie, Skylar, Payton, Robert, Mary Christine, Rylan, and Aaron.

Services will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 11:00 AM at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy, Harrington. A visitation for family and friends will be at the funeral home Monday evening from 6 to 8 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to either the Harrington Fire Co, 20 Clark Street, Harrington, DE 19952, or to the Clayton Fire Co, PO Box 1050, Clayton, DE 19938.

Arrangements are by the Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home Inc, Harrington, DE.
