GARDEN CITY - Cleo M. Chaffin, 81, died May 30, 2004, at St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City.

She was born December 6, 1922, at Yates Center, the daughter of Amos and Leora Fread Foote. A Garden City resident since 1958, formerly of Springfield, MO, she was a homemaker and worked at Western Kansas Sporting Goods and was a baker at Garden Valley Retirement Village. She later was a volunteer receptionist at the Finney County Senior Center.

She belonged to First Baptist Church, Garden City, the Bible Builders Sunday School Class, the Ioleta McElaeny Circle, and was a Gild Girls sponsor, a Team Kid coach and a member of American Baptist Women.

On July 5, 1942, she married Fred Chaffin at Yates Center. He died Aug 28, 2001.

Survivors include: two daughters, Connie Palmblade, Garden City, and Cathy Rice, Paradise, Texas; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Gorman.

Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Garden City, with the Revs. Carroll Morony and Charles Stevens presiding.
