Shirley was born and raised in Washington DC and in her heart remained a "Washingtonian." Shirley and her husband of 61 years lived in Points,WV for over 25 years until moving to Asheboro, NC in the Spring of 2014. She was a devout Redskins fan all her life as many who knew her could testify. She and her husband John ate daily at Doodle's Restaurant in Augusta where she enjoyed sharing her enthusiasm for the "Skins" and socializing. Shirley was vivaciously social and everywhere she went, easily made friends and without qualification, she simply loved everyone. A stranger to her, truly, was just a friend she had not met. She is lovingly remembered by her surviving friends and their families, many of whom shared with her many good times camping with the NCHA. Her dearest values were her unwavering faith in God, her husband, her children and grandchildren. She was incredibly proud of each and every member of her family. In most recent years and as a final gift, Shirley enjoyed crocheting and made an afghan for each member of her family. The gift that truly defined her was the love she gave so freely, the willing ear to listen and the hugs she had to offer.
Shirley is survived by her husband, John Dunham of Asheboro, NC; one sister: Elaine Fry of Maryland; four daughters; Deborah Winslow and husband Brad of Pennsylvania, Cheryl Edmonds and husband Ken of North Carolina, Juanita Kohn and husband Jeffrey of Illinois, and Kristina Potts and husband Bill of Maryland; six grandchildren: Kendrah Peterson and husband Karlis, Clonnie Johnson IV, David Edmonds and wife Allie, Nicholas Kohn, William Potts III and Stephanie Potts; seven great grandchildren: Kai and Kaleigh Peterson, Zoe Edmonds, Paxton Kohn, Brandon Roberts, Gabriel Genery and Hanna Potts.
