In Boston, November 26, 2009 Mary E. Andrews, age 70 died at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Brighton following a brief illness. She was born in North Dighton, MA., she was the daughter of the late Francis F.G. Andrews and Julia (Trond) Andrews. Mary was a graduate of Berkley Grammer School and Dighton High School, class of 1956. Mary leaves her siblings: Carol Mills of Berkley, Louis Andrews and his wife Mary Ann of Providence, RI, Rev. John Andrews (Pastor at Our Lady of Lourdes) in Wellfleet, MA., Robert Andrews and his wife Eleanor of Chatham and Naples, FL., and Ann McGurk and her husband William of Sarasota, FL. And Prince Edward Island, Canada. Her nieces and nephews: Judy Mills Sullivan, William McGurk, Russell McGurk, Lawrence McGurk, Christopher Andrews, Rosalyn Kageliery, Jay Andrews and many other great nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Mary's career was in the Foreign Service of the United States. Her assignments were in Japan, Saudi Arabia, Colombia, El Salvador, the Soviet Union, Sweden, Canada and Washington D.C. While in Washington D.C., She was assigned to special projects at the United Nations and President Ronald Reagan's trip to Ireland and his summit in Geneva with President Gorbachev. Upon retirement in 1989, Mary returned home to Berkley and served her community as a member of the Council of Aging, serving as Chairman for ten years, the Board of Directors of Bristol Elder Services for ten years, past President and Treasurer of the Berkley Historical Society, Chairman of the Berkley Historical Commission for eight years, member of the Public Safety Building Committee, volunteered as Secretary to the Board of Trustees of the Berkley Public Library and Vice President of the Friends of the Library. Mary was descendant of Mayflower passengers Stephen Hopkins, Constance Hopkins, Thomas Rogers, and Degory Priest. Mary served as the State Regent of the MA. Daughters of the American Revolution 2003-2006 and was a member of the Lydia Cobb Quequechan Chapter, serving as Chapter Regent. She currently served as President of New England Women. She served on the Board of Trustees of Hillside School in Marlboro, MA. for three years. Mary was also a member of Old Colony Historical Society, Pilgrim Hall Museum, Scituate Historical Society and Freetown Historical Society. Mary attended St. Bernard's Church in Assonet and was a past president of their Women's Guild. An active member of the Fall River Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, she is a past President of District 1. She was currently the third Vice President of the FRDCCW. Mary enjoyed helping her niece at the Silver City Dance Studio, as well being an avid reader, quilter, knitter, helping with genealogical research and being the family historian. Funeral from the O'Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St. in Taunton on Tuesday, December 1st at 9:30am. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Bernard's Church in Assonet at 11am. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Monday from 4-7pm. Interment in St. Francis Cemetery in Taunton.
