Erected by William Abel to the memory of his wife ELSPET SMITH, who died on the 11th May 1859 aged 37 years. Also three of their children who died in infancy, Elizabeth Mary aged 3 months, John Smith aged 11 months, and Mary who died on the 21st August 1859 aged 2 years and 3 months. George died on the 20th May 1864 aged 4 years 3 months. Margaret died on the 17 July 1864, aged 22 years & 8 months, Helen wife of the Rev Wm Sherriffs, died at Blennheim Marlborough Province New Zealand, on the 13th April 1870 aged 23 years.
