Blanche Emma Allred
Blanche Emma Bateman Allred, 87, passed away of natural causes at Logan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Logan, Utah, on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004.
She was a resident of the center for about eight years. She had previously lived in Richmond, Utah, since July 1973. She was born in Ogden, Utah, on March 11, 1917 (also her mother's birthday), to Lottie Agnes Webster Bateman and David Henry Bateman. She was the first of four siblings. Her parents were divorced when she was 9 years old and her mother was later married to John Orie (Jack) Payton. They merged their two families for a total of seven children (one brother died before this marriage). She attended school in OGden and graduated from Ogden High School in 1935.
On Nov. 14, 1935, at age 18, she married Claudus Glenn (Jim) Allred of Slaterville, Utah. They made their home in the Ogden area during the years of 1935 to 1945. During this time, they farmed and were both employed at the Ogden Arsenal during the first years of World War II. They had three children during this time.
In early 1945 they purchased a 120-acre, irrigated farm it Tuttle, Idaho. Here they raised their children, were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple and farmed until 1958 when they moved to the Sugarhouse area of Salt Lake CIty. In Salt Lake City she worked for food services at Holy Cross Hospital and then for the JC Penney Regional Offices until 1973.
After retirement they moved to Richmond, Utah, and established their home there. She was a member of the LDS Church and was active in both Primary and Relief Society during her lifetime. She was a member of the James Hendricks Camp of the Daughters fo the Utah Pioneers. In Richmond, she worked extensively with the church's extraction program. She did volunteer work in the kindergarten program at Park School in Richmond.
Blanceh enjoyed cross stitch, quilting, embridery, sewing, reading, flower gardening, and homemaking. She enjoyed spending time with her family and she and Jim loved camping and fishing. They were enthusiastic rock hounds and jewelry makers and had a fine array of tools for pursuing this hobby.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents and her stepfather; two brothers; two stepbrothers; and two stepsisters. She is survived by one sister, Emma Poorman of Ogden; two sons and one daughter, Glen (Ellen) Allred of Smithfield, Blaine (Jerrie) Allred of Pocatello and Diane Chapman of Tuscon, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16, at the Allen-Cranney Mortuary, 1800 N. 400 East in North Logan. A viewing will be held from 10 to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, prior to services. Interment will be in the Ogden City Cemetery.
