John Centers was the son of John Center, Sr., and his first wife whose name is as of yet unknown. He married this woman in Dec 1820 as noted in his War of 1812 pension paperwork. It is possible that a daughter was also born to John Sr and his first wife, as there is a female born between 1820-1825 on the 1830 and 1840 censuses for John and Catherine.

The second wife of John Center, Sr., was Catherine Noland whom he married on 20 Nov 1825 (as proven by their marriage license). Together, John Sr and Catherine had these children: Martin Luther, Nathaniel W., James, George W., William, and Amaziah Hall. There might have been an additional son and one daughter per information on the 1840 census. (The family name changed from Center to Centers with the younger John's generation.)

This John married Elenor "Elen" Carter on 8 Mar 1846 in Gallipolis, Gallia Co., Ohio. They moved from Ohio to Livonia, Putnam Co., Missouri, sometime between 1854 and 1856.

John served as a corporal in Co. D, 18 Reg't Infantry Volunteers in Missouri during the Civil War.
