Ward D. Bailey, Sr. was born on October 12, 1936 in Guide Rock, Nebraska to Claude and Edith (Reiselt) Bailey. He passed away at his home in Plattsmouth, NE on Sunday, December 12, 2010 at the age of 74 years, 2 months.
Ward was raised in Guide Rock, Nebraska and graduated from High School there in 1954. He joined the U.S. Navy in June of 1954 and served his country until October of 1957. He was united in marriage to Judy M. Schleicher on May 23, 1959 in Plattsmouth, Nebraska and together they raise four children, Ed, Ward, Jr., Melanie and Tammy.
At a young age, Ward began a career as an ironworker, a job that would span 52 years. He was a member of the Ironworkers Union, Local 21 and had the privalage of working with many members of his family including, his son, brother and nephew. Being and ironworker was more than a job for Ward, it was having a second family.
He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #2543 in Plattsmouth, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he served as a greeter.
Ward is survived by his Children: Ed Bailey of Union, NE; Melanie Lotspeich of Osceola, NE; Ward "Chip" Bailey, Jr. of Plattsmouth, NE; Tammy Bailey of Plattsmouth, NE; Sisters: Nancy Bracken of Fremont, NE; May Ruxton of Hastings, NE: Myrtie Delka of Guide Rock, NE; Jean Loya of Clifton, AZ; Brother: Nick Bailey of Lincoln, NE. Also survived by 13 grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Judy Bailey (1/14/10), brother, Jerold Bailey.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Plattsmouth, Nebraska with Bishop Nathan Cox officiating.
Graveside Services will be in the Guide Rock Cemetery in Guide Rock, Nebraska
