Urma Lee (Burns) Chumley, 88, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, August 23, 2012, at home. She was born in Evansville.

She was a member of the Ladies Auxillary of the VFW and was the president of the local chapter of the Woodmen of the World. She worked at Welborn Hospital as a nursing assistant until she began a group home for patients from the Evansville State Hospital. She enjoyed singing at the Chandler Baptist Church and was a long time member of Pleasant Chapel General Baptist Church in Evansville where she served as a treasurer, and was involved in many programs throughout her lifetime.

Urma was preceded in death by the love of her life and father of all her children, Raymond Burns. They were married for many years until his death in 1980. She then married Roy Chumley and they enjoyed traveling together until his death in 1999. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Edna and Thurlo Hurt; infant sister, Mary Jane; brothers, Denzel, Cleatus, William, Cecil and Wayne; half-sister, Irma Paradise; granddaughter, Paula Jo Robertson; and grandson, Troy Raymond Burns.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Elaine Stephens; sons, Bobbie Rae Burns, Gilbert Steven Burns and Claude Thomas Burns; sister, Eva Lena Thompson and Priscilla Dean Baggett; brothers, Jack G. Hurt (Sonja) and David "Corky" Hurt (Susan); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will 2:00 PM Sunday, August 26, 2012, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Fr. Claude Burns, with burial in Bates Hill Cemetery in Yankeetown. Friends may visit Saturday from 12:00 to 5:00 PM at the funeral home.
