Anor Oliver Montgomery was born about 1804 in Virginia. At some time, she moved to Ohio. 19 January 1826 she married James Montgomery in Marion, Ohio. While in Ohio, they had their six known children: John (1827-?), William (1832-1865), Matilda (1833-1915), Mary (1836-1876), Jane (1838-1905), and Elizabeth "Betsey" (1840-abt. 1865).
Sometime between 1840 and 1850, the family moved to Burnett, Dodge, Wisconsin where we find them in the 1850 census. By 1857, they had moved to Winona County, Minnesota Territory where they farmed. They continued living there until the death of her husband, James, in 1865. After this, Anor stayed with her daughter, Matilda Montgomery Brown, and her family in Pleasant Hill, Winona, Minnesota.
