In 1888, he married Rosa Befler, who was born December 16, 1860 in Switzerland, but had immigrated to America in 1870. John and Rosa subsequently had six known children: John Jr, Ella, Emma, Burt C, Joy, and Fred J. John and Rosa owned a farm in Lexington where they farmed and raised their family.
John died January 31, 1938 and was buried in the Lexington Cemetery. Rosa died July 18, 1943, and was buried beside her husband.
