ELLERSLIE — Betty J. Beal, 89, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016, at Frostburg Village. Born April 13, 1926, in Ellerslie, she was a daughter of the late George and Sarah “Goldie” (Lowery) Shroyer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Troy W. Beal; brothers, Gerald, Noah, John, Ralph and Alvin Shroyer; sisters, Anna Lowery, Marjorie Handschumaker, and Hazel Shroyer. Survived by a son, Mark I. Beal and wife, Tena (Phillips), Ridgeley, W.Va.; a daughter, Rebecca J. Murphy and husband, Ivan, of Cumberland; her precious grandchildren, Christopher Beal, Matthew and Alexander Murphy, and Christina Tippen and husband, Erik; a great-grandson, Zachery Tippen; and many nieces and nephews. Betty graduated from Allegany High School and Catherman’s Business School. She had worked at the M. O’Neal Company and also at the Celanese. She was a lifelong member of the Ellerslie United Methodist Church, where she taught 5th and 6th grade Sunday school. She also held many church offices. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, Former Light Bearers Class, Church Women United of the Greater Cumberland Area, Asbury Methodist Guild, leader of the prayer circle and Methodist Board of Child Care. She served our country for 44 years as a Navy wife and mother. She will be remembered for her strong faith, Christian values and dedication to her church. Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman, Pa., on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ted Marsh officiating. Burial will follow at Porter Cemetery, Hyndman. Cumberland Times-News Obituary
