Masquil Polley, the son of Asa Polley and Nancy Mannering, on 8 October 1850 purchased 41.62 acres identified as NENW in Section 29 of Township 9 Range 20 West in the Ohio River Survey. 1860 living in Harrison Twp of Ross County. His service in the Civil War was in I Company of the 12th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Cavalry, with his brothers-in-law Hugh and Thomas Hamilton and Robert Patterson. 1870 the Polley family is enumerated in Stark County, Illinois. Masquil's occupation is a carpenter. Martha E. is listed as a Domestic, William is a farm hand and the younger children are Sylvester, Nancy Eliza J., Thomas and the youngest Henry Norman. Henry N. born in Illinois. Ten years later they are residing in South Moline. Masquil is a carpenter Dorcas is at home with three children, Thomas E., Norman H., and Della.
