Georgine Belanger Gill was a Canadian author, journalist, novelist, poet, short story writer. She wrote for the newspaper La Presse a column for women, Pour vous Mesdames, from 1913 to 1915. The prolific career of Georgine Belanger, also known as Gaétane de Montreuil in the literary roll offers a singular perspective on discursive strategies used by women writers, and their evolution according to the literary standpoint, at the turn of the twentieth century. In the context of a literary field still strongly linked to the more general social space, and when literary critique was still embryonic, Gaétane de Montreuil played different roles: counsellor, librarian, teacher, critique, editor, advertising executive. This plurality is important and significant, particularly in the context of women's literary practices at a moment when a feminine literary expertise emerged in the French Canadian context. She married Charles Ignace Adelard Gill, in 1902 and they had two children, Joseph Seraphin and Roger Charles.
