Alberta M. (Ward) Beattie, 90, St. Joseph, passed from this life on Monday, March 2, 2009, at Saxton Riverside Care Center, St. Joseph.
She was born July 29, 1918, in St. Joseph, to James and Nettie (Gabbert) Ward.
Alberta married Ralph Hicks in 1938 and he preceded her in death in 1945.
She then married Fred Beattie on July 8, 1948, in St. Joseph and he preceded her in death on March 17, 1984. Alberta was also preceded in death by her parents; sons, Fred Beattie III, David Hicks and Albert Beattie; daughter, Mona Corkins; a granddaughter; two brothers and two sisters.
Alberta worked at Swift Co. for over 20 years, then at Missouri Methodist Hospital and then Sherwood Medical. She was a member of Patee Park Baptist Church.
Alberta had a great love for her family and grandchildren.
Survivors: daughter and son-in-law, Dixie and Jack Lehman; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Sharon Hicks, all of St. Joseph; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Graveside Celebration of Life and Interment: 10 a.m. Thursday, March 5, at Mount Auburn Cemetery, St. Joseph. There is no public viewing or visitation scheduled.
The family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer's Association.
