"Grace L. DeRubeis, 88, of Palm Desert passed away on Jan. 9, 2009 in Rancho Mirage at her Brighton Gardens residence. She was born Aug. 13, 1920 in Wyndmere, N.D., to Herbert and Clara Melby Springer. She married George DeRubeis on Nov. 7, 1942 in Bessemer, Mich. She lived in Palm Desert for 20 years. Mrs. DeRubeis received her Bachelor of Science and masters of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin, Stout. She was a high school teacher in California schools for 26 years with 22 of those years in the Fullerton Union High School District. She had served as president of the Imperial County Home Economics Association, the Orange County Home Economics Association and the Epsilon Lambda Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma (an honorary society for women teachers). She is survived by her nephew, Bernard and his wife, Greta DeRubeis of Palm Desert and Hayward, Wis., and other nieces and nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1995. Interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Cypress, Calif."
