Obituary Florence E. Anderson, Salina Journal, Sun, 3-29-1981
The funeral for Florence E Anderson, formerly of 724 Highland, a longtime Salina teacher, will be at 2 pm Tuesday at the First United Presbyterian church, Dr. Bernard Hawley officiating.
Miss Anderson died Saturday at Presbyterian Manor after a long illness. She had lived at the Manor for the past year.
Miss Anderson taught school for nearly one-half century, most of the time as a first grade teacher, starting countless young Salinans through the learning process. She was born July 2, 1899, near Mentor and attended Simmel school. After graduation from Salina High School, she taught two years at Mentor school then continued her own studies at Emporia State University, Denver University, and Kansas Wesleyan where she was graduated and began teaching first grade in the Salina system.
She retired in 1968 after 45 years in the classroom. She was superintendent of the Presbyterian Church Sunday School's primary department for more than 40 years. She was an organist, a member of Retired Teachers Association, First Presbyterian Church and United Presbyterian Women.
Surviving are several cousins.
Burial will be in Gypsum Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the Geisendorf Rush Smith Funeral Home until Tuesday noon and at the church from 1 pm until the service. The family suggest memorials to the Mentor Church, First Presbyterian Church or Presbyterian Manor of Salina.
