Mr. Elvern A. Bales, 88, of Independence, died Friday evening at the Golden Living Center in Neodesha.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the First Church of the Nazarene of Neodesha with Pastor Darrell Bisel, officiating. Interment will be at the Harrisonville Cemetery southwest of Independence. Friends may call at the Penwell-Gabel Webb & Rodrick Chapel from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. on Monday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday.
The family has suggests memorial remembrances to the First Church of Nazarene in Neodesha and remembrances will be received at the funeral home.
Elvern Artis Bales was born June 25, 1924 in Washita County, Oklahoma, the son of David Samuel Bales and Maggie May (Melker) Bales. He attended Cowden schools. Mr. Bales moved to this area in 1953 and farmed in the Wayside, Kansas area until moving into Independence in 1988. He also worked as a Bus Driver for the Wayside and Caney school districts. For many years, Elvern worked for John Palmer Farms. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene of Neodesha.
On June 24, 1948 at Carnegie, Oklahoma, he was united in marriage to his wife who survives.
Also surviving are: a son of Havana, Kansas; a daughter of Independence and a daughter of Tulsa, Oklahoma; five grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
