Ashes buried in Rockton Township Cemetery and Lenoir City Cemetery.

A sly smile appeared on the face of the earth when George Thomas "Tom" Ferguson was born on September 21, 1938, and it shed a tear when he departed, peacefully, on October 27, 2008. Tom was born in Lenoir City, Tn, married his childhood sweetheart, Norma Jean Hill in 1958 and moved to Rockton, Il in 1960. A forever patriot, Tom served in the US Navy from 1955-1959. His favorite song was the "Star Spangled Banner". He possessed an amazing knowledge of history, a passion for politics, and a reverent admiration for the men and women who served and are serving in the military. Tom supported his family as a welder, working for Beloit Corporation and Parker Hannafin until his retirement in 1998. He also worked for Buffa's Supper Club as "Reverend Ferguson", where he and Norma made lifelong friends. In 1986, Tom opened the "Prop Clinic" in Rockton and was thereafter known as the "Prop Doc". Blessed with immense talent and a biting wit, he wrote several stories and poems that serve as his legacy forevermore. Accustomed to being the smartest guy in the room, Tom would happily wipe the floor up with anyone unfortunate enough to be in the room while "Jeopardy" was on television, including the contestants. He was an avid Bears fan, and enjoyed playing pool and golf in his younger years. Tom adored and leaves his precious sisters JoAnn Brown, Linda Ingram and Betsy (Gary) Collins; special nephew Scott Ingram and brother-in-law Ira "Wormy" Hill, and looked forward to their visits every year. He cared deeply for special family members Edward "Red" and Robert "Eddie" Collins. He was Pepaw and Papa to grandchildren Ken, Amanda, Bean, Sean, Ian, Cooper, Jana, Hana, Tanner, and Vesta, and great grandhildren Noah and Conner, who will all navigate this life as better people because of his wise and humorous influence. The love of Norma' life, he leaves us all with a lifetime of happy memories. Father to Mary Beth Ferguson, Tracy (Mike) Swanson, John Ferguson, Jim (Connie) Ferguson, and Shannon (Tricia) Ferguson. Dad, we will carry on with the wisdom and gifts you gave us. He leaves to join his beloved mother Francis and brother David. We will miss you, but see you again. Please save us a piece of Apple Pan Dowdy - can't get enough of that wonderful stuff. We love you. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Bharati Roy for her exceptional care. In accordance with Tom's wishes, there will be an open house in celebration of his life on Sunday, November 2, 2008 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the American Legion in Rockton, IL. McCorkle Funeral Home, 767 N Blackhawk Blvd, Rockton, IL assisted the family.
