Francis Caldwell, 83, of Normalville, passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, in the Excela Health Hospice at Jeannette Westmorland Hospital. He was born Aug. 3, 1926, in Bullskin Township, a son of the late Clark and Roadic Eutsey Caldwell. Prior to his retirement, Francis worked as a coal miner for Eastern Gas & Fuel at the Melcroft Mine, for Russellton Coal, and at the Banning Coal Mine. He also had worked for Penn Line and the former Scottdale Casket Co. Francis enjoyed mowing his grass and yard work. Francis is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Dorothy Echard Caldwell; his daughter, Connie Caldwell May and her husband, Dale Sr., of Acme; his son, Bruce Caldwell, of Normalville; his grandchildren, Dale May Jr. and his friend, Ronda Overly, both of Stahlstown, and Barry and Melissa May, of Normalville; and his great-grandchild, Nathaniel May, of Stahlstown. In addition to his parents, Francis was predeceased by a daughter, Robin Caldwell, in 1961; a brother, Raymond Caldwell, in 1976; and a sister, Ellree Wiltrout, in 2009. Family and friends will be received from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Paul C. Freidhof officiating. A committal service and interment will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery, Bullskin Township.
