The 1910 US Census of Precinct 12, Jefferson Co., AL enumerated the household of 34 Y/O Oscar Jones, a salesman in a dry goods store born in AL, and his 24 Y/O wife, Mary Frances (Abercrombie) Jones, born in AL. Also living in the household was their 3 Y/O daughter, Marguerite Jones.
The 1920 US Census of Birmingham, Jefferson Co., AL enumerated the household of 44 Y/O Oscar Jones, a dispatcher for a laundry company, and his 40 Y/O wife, "Fannie" (Mary Frances (Abercrombie) Jones). Their 15 Y/O daughter, Marguerite Jones, was also living in the household.
The 1930 US Census of Birmingham, Jefferson Co., AL enumerated the household of 53 Y/O Oscar Jones, a laundry salesman, and his 50 Y/O wife, Mary Frances (Abercrombie) Jones. Their 24 Y/O daughter, Marguerite Jones, a music teacher, and Oscar's 68 Y/O mother-in-law, Frances Ella (Godwin) Abercrombie were also living in the residence.

The 1932 Birmingham, Alabama City Directory lists Effie Folkerth, widow of Thomas, living in the household of her son, Jesse Holland Folkerth. Jesse was employed as a Department Manager for the Birmingham Paper Company. Also listed in the household was Jesse's wife, Marguerite Folkerth, a music teacher.
The 1940 US Census of Birmingham, Jefferson Co., AL enumerated the household of 56 Y/O widowed Effie Folkerth. Also living in the household was Effie's son, 36 Y/O Jesse Holland Folkerth. Jesse's 35 Y/O wife, Marguerite (Jones) Folkerth was also residing in the household. Jesse was employed as the manager of the box department of a local paper company (The Birmingham Paper Company).
The 1934, 1941, 1956 and 1960 Birmingham, AL City Directories recorded the household of Jesse Holland Folkerth, and his wife, Marguerite (Jones) Folkerth. Also living in the household during this period of time was Jesse's mother, Effie Bryant (Holland) Folkerth. Jesse's job with the Birmingham Paper Company progressed from clerk, department manager, regional manager to vice-president of the company.
The 1957/60 Birmingham, Alabama City Directory lists Effie Folkerth, widow of Thomas, living in the household of her son, Jesse Holland Folkerth and his wife, Marguerite (Jones) Folkerth. Jesse Holland Folkerth was the Vice President of the Birmingham Paper Company.
Folkerth, Marguerite Jones, passed away August 29th, 2006 at the age of 102. She was born in B'ham, AL daughter of Oscar and Frances Jones. Her marriage to Jesse Holland Folkerth was the begging of a happy marriage of 65 years. He has preceded her in death. She was a member of the Independent Presbyterian Church.
Her life long love of music led to be the organist of the Ensley Presbyterian Church, the 6th Avenue Presbyterian Church and Kirkwood by the River Chapel. Holland and Marguerite were some of the original residents of Kirkwood and she played the organ until last year. Her many interests in life included needlepoint and sewing, china painting, travel, golf but her main interest was founding scholarships at Birmingham-Southern College and Vanderbilt University.
Her only remaining relative is her cousin, Frances McLaughlin and her daughter, Anne. She will be missed by many close friends.
A memorial service will be held at the Chapel of Kirkwood by the River, 3605 Ratliff on Aug. 31, 2006 at 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution may be made to Kirkwood by the River or your favorite charity.
Services are under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel (879-3401) in Homewood.
Marguerite (Jones) Folkerth was the 1st cousin 3 times removed of Pleasant Riggs Crump, who had the distinction of being recognized as the last surviving Civil War Confederate Veteran when he died on 31 Dec 1951. Among other notable events, he was at Appomattox Courthouse to witness the surrender of Gen. Robert E. Lee. See Find A Grave Memorial #13397843.
