Lemmie was born in Sunset, Texas where he married Hattie Martin, the daughter of Newt and Betty Martin, in 1906. They moved to Granite, Oklahoma in 1915 and resided there until 1925 before moving to Mangum, Oklahoma. At his death he was survived by his wife Hattie, two Sons, Delbert and Louis Bedford and two Daughters, Edith May and Mamie Estelle of Mangum: a brother Charlie, Sunset, Texas; a sister Mrs. Ollie Miller, Burkburnett, Texas: eight grandchildren: Wilford Burris, Oleta Fern Burris, Joyce Levita Burris, Orville Wayne Burris, Harold Ray Burris, Robert Louis Burris, Donald Lee Nichols, and James Rogers. Four grandchildren were born after his death: Jerry Burris, Donnie Mack Burris, Gary Don Burris, Larry Dean Burris.
