Richard T. Driver, 75, of Topeka passed away at Stormont-Vail Hospital on Monday, March 18, 2013. Richard was born the eighth of nine children born to Roy and Hannah Windett Driver in the family farm house on March 23, 1937 in Pomona, Kansas. He was raised in Quenemo and a graduate of Quenemo High School. He attended DeVry Inst., in Chicago; Univ. of Kansas and graduated from Baker University with a bachelor's degree in sociology and education. He received his master's in math education from Boston College and doctorate from Kansas State University. Richard married Ruth N. Schultze in Melvern, KS on Aug 8, 1964. They have two children, Sara Driver currently in Austin, TX and Michael Driver and wife Annie and their two children, Blaise and Stacy, all of Topeka. Blaise and Stacy were the apple of Richard's eye. Richard was a strong advocate of education in the community. He worked for the Topeka Public Schools from 1975-1996 as a District Administrator. He taught at Washburn University as an adjunct professor from 1975-1996, and then full time professor from 1996-2011. Richard was highly active in church, at First United Methodist for many years and at University United Methodist where he was currently a member, served in various capacities and sang in the church choir. He was also an avid supporter of the arts, as both a parent of musical children, board member, and president of the Topeka Symphony. He was a founding partner of Vassar Playhouse along with his wife and his sister, Veda Rogers, and her husband, Bruce. Richard is survived by his wife, Ruth, two children, two grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and his living siblings: Jim Driver, Joe Driver, Donald Driver, Peggy Friesen, Veda Rogers and Howard Driver. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Bill Driver in WW II and John Driver of Atlanta, GA. Please help us celebrate Richard's life and send him home to heaven on Saturday, March 23rd, which is Richard's birthday. Cake and fellowship will be celebrated from 4:00 to 5:00 pm, with the service of memories commencing at 5:00 pm at University United Methodist, 1621 SW College, Topeka, Kansas 66604.
