Politician. Opposed to the governor Juan Manuel de Rosas, he had to go to exile in Europe. He was legislator of the Province of Buenos Aires. Member of the Constitutional Convention of 1853. Governor of Buenos Aires from 1872 to 1874, when promoted compulsory education and he made build dozens of schools. He also was Vice-president of Argentina during the presidency of Nicolás Avellaneda, from 1874 to 1880. He was the founder of the town of Saladillo. As a lay Franciscan, was buried in the crypt of the church.
