Pulaski, Tenn., Aug. 6.--(Special.)--John G. Ballentine, son of Ex-Congressman John G. Ballentine, deceased, and George Adams were instantly killed about 10 o'clock Tuesday night when the Packard car they were coming to town in from Mr. Ballentine's farm at Deray, ran off a bridge across Haywood creek on the Columbia turnpike, seven miles north of Pulaski, in an effort to avoid crashing into a buggy.
Manuel West, an occupant of the auto, was saved from drowning by Butler Johns, also of the party.
The occupants of the buggy, it is alleged, jeeringly remarked: "Guess that bunch won't scare us any more," and proceeded on their way.
John G. Ballentine was about 55 years of age, and a splendid citizen. He is survived by his sisters, Misses Sallie and Adelaide, of Pulaski, and two brothers, Henry, of Washington, D.C., and Andrew, of Sardis, Miss. George Adams is survived by his mother and several sisters and a brother, Larkin Adams.
