Charlene Blakney was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on July 24, 1935 the daughter of the late James Cecil Wood and Reba Dee Ivy Curtis Wood.

On July 6, 1952 she was united in marriage to Vernon Edward Blakney of Michie, Tennessee, who survives.

Mrs. Blakney was the owner and operator of Southside Ceramics Shop. She had previously worked for Wurlitzer in Corinth, Mississippi and Genesco Shoe Company in Iuka, Mississippi. She loved company, visiting the Smokey Mountains, quilting, and fish-fry's with her family. Enjoyed canning food and vegetables for her family. She loved to play practical jokes and was a very happy person. Mrs. Blakney was a member of the Center Hill Baptist Church and attended Childers Hill Pentecostal Church.

Mrs. Blakney departed this life on Monday, April 25, 2011 at the age of 75 years, 9 months, 1 day.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by 4 sons, James Ronnie Blakney and wife Dee of Arlington, Texas, Donnie Edward Blakney and Carolyn of Bruton Branch, Tennessee, Johnny Aaron Blakney of Stantonville, Tennessee, Ritchie Dale Blakney and wife Crystal of Michie, Tennessee; a daughter, Sylvia Dianne Cooper and husband J.C. of Michie, Tennessee; 2 sisters, Cathy Murphy of Corinth, Mississippi and Carolyn Hill of Stantonville, Tennessee; a brother, Jimmy Wood of Michie, Tennessee; 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 1 on the way.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Joyce Turner and Ama Lois Lomenick; a great grandchild, Taylor Hardy.
