|Birth: ||Mar., 1862|
According to his son's (Jesse) death certificate, Reuben was born in Harris County, Georgia. Since the family had relocated to St. Clair County, Alabama around the 1860 census, the family must have been visiting family when Reuben was born. It wasn't until after Reuben's father, (also named Reuben) was killed in the battle of Vicksburg did the family move back to Harris County.
The 1870 census mistakenly listed Reuben as 'Richard', which has caused some confusion. There was never a 'Richard' in this family. His name was Reuben. As evidence, the name Jessie Reuben has been passed down through the generations from father to son. Reuben named his only son, Jesse Reuben, and in return, Jesse would name his oldest son, John Reuben, and John Reuben would name his eldest son, Jessie.
Currently, Reuben's death and burial place are a big family mystery. An older distant cousin claims he is buried in Chambers County, Alabama, along with this wife, Missouri. However, another claims my gg grandparents' graves were removed and relocated to Troup County, Georgia (along with 10 other Chambers County cemeteries) when West Point Damn was built.
