Archie Russell Allen, 100, of Hannibal, MO passed away at 11:55 AM Friday, February 17, 2017 at the Hannibal Regional Hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, February 24, 2017 at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Hannibal, MO. Burial will full military honors by Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post #55 will be at Holy Family Catholic Cemetery in Hannibal, MO.

Friends and Family are invited to Archie’s Life Celebration at a visitation that will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday at the James O’Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, MO.

Archie was born on September 6, 1916 in Litchfield, MN to John A. and Minnie Jordine Allen.

He was married on May 1, 1941 in Litchfield, MN to Bernice Vogelpohl. She preceded him in death on February 2, 2016.

Also preceding Archie in death were his parents, a daughter, Mary Ann Allen, a son, Michael Jerome Allen, eight brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include: three children, Jim Allen (Mary), Jean Kane (Tim) and Bob Allen (Karla); four grandchildren, Mark Kane, Kevin Allen, Matt Kane, and Nikki Douglas; seven great grandchildren, Trevor, Briar, Ciara, Braysen, Brody, Devin and Drew. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Archie was a veteran of the United States Army, serving his country proudly during World War II.

Archie retired as a press foreman from the Western Publishing Company. In his retirement Archie also worked a number of years at the American Legion Golf Course in Hannibal, MO.

Away from work Archie enjoyed woodworking and stone work. Archie often crafted beautiful jewelry out of stones he found. Archie also loved to golf and spent numerous hours playing and caring for the American Legion Golf Course in Hannibal, MO.

Lucky by nature, Archie had a knack for winning drawings he entered and games he played at the casinos. Archie enjoyed visits with family to Las Vegas and other casinos. Family fishing trips are also something that Archie took great pleasure in fishing the lakes in Minnesota with his brothers and with his sons later in Canada.

When his work took Archie and his family to Maryland, the family enjoyed boating and developed an affinity for crab cakes. Life’s simple pleasures were some of Archie’s favorites. He liked to play music, usually either his harmonica or accordion. He was also a talented dancer, often winning many waltz and polka contests with his wife, Bernice. Cutting wood, smoking fish, St. Louis Cardinals Baseball or simply reminiscing and sharing stories with family and friends were all times that Archie treasured.

Archie was an honest and hardworking man that loved his family and was always generous and loyal. A teacher, husband, dad, grandpa and “Mr. Fix It”, Archie was loved by all that knew him.

Archie was raised as a Swedish Lutheran, he later became Catholic and along with his wife, Bernice were members of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Hannibal, MO.

Pallbearers will be Mark Kane, Kevin Allen, Matt Kane, Darin Douglas, Trevor Kane and Briar Douglas.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Kane, Nikki Douglas and all of Archie’s Golf Buddies.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of the James O’Donnell Funeral Home of Hannibal, MO.
