Birth: 1842

Death: Jul. 2, 1901

Charles was the son of Henry Behanna and Hannah Williams Behanna. He served in Co. D, 22nd Pa Calvary in the Civil War. The 1880 census lists Charles as living in Carroll Township with wife Martha Harvey Behanna and six children, working as a coal miner. An old Behanna pedigree lists his occupation as "stone cutter". He is listed in the log book of Gilmore Cemetery with a burial date of July 5, 1901, with notation "Soldier".
Obit from The Daily Republican: ANSWERED ROLL CALL. Charles Behanna died at West Columbia, Tuesday evening, aged 54 years. Mr. Behanna suffered a stroke of paralysis about 9:45 and succumbed about two hours later. The deceased was one of five brothers who served in the war of the rebellion. He was a member of Co. E, 22nd Pennsylvania Cavalry. Thus as the days go by the bugle sounds the farewell parting of many of the boys of 61 who rushed to their country's safety in the days of strife, but their deeds of valor, and the cause for which they offered their lives as a sacrifice will never die. The funeral takes place July 4, at 2 pm; interment Gilmore Cemetery. The deceased is survived by a wife and family of grown children. (Courtesy Grace V.)
