Rolett Vernon Akins, 91, of the Dogtown community, passed away Monday, March 3, 2014 at his home. He was born March 22, 1922 to the late William Arthur Akins and Bertie Camp Akins. He was retired from Akins Furniture, of which he was a former owner. Mr. Akins was a member of the Walkers Chapel United Methodist Church, the Ruhama Masonic Lodge #902 F&AM, and the VFW. Mr. Akins was a former chairman of the Walkers Chapel Cemetery committee and a master gardener. He was the Atlanta Braves' biggest fan.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Walkers Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Darrell Morgan and Rev. Ben McCurdy officiating. Burial will follow in Walkers Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your favorite charity in his memory.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Brownie Akins; son and daughter-in-law, Van and Trena Akins; daughter and son-in-law, Leigh and Keith Rouse; grandchildren, Alan, Quincy, and David; and great-grandchildren, Ethan, Emma, and Kirsten.
