Seraphina Leonard's 3rd great grandfather was the famous Samuel Leonard(son)who was captured by Canadian Indians and held captive for 1 1/2 years. Later the same Indian tribe would capture Hannah Dustin and her nurse friend, Mary. The three together would eventually learn from their captors how to scalp an individual and when the time was right scalped their captors and escape down the river back home to Haverill, Mass. Novelist Cotton Mather as well as others wrote about the harrowing adventure. Hannah Dustin was immortalized and a statue sits of her today in Havervill, Mass.
