From the Chetopa Clipper, 10 Aug 1905, pg. 4

George W. Goodmon was born Feb. 25, 1823, in Monroe County, KY, and died Aug. 5, 1905 in Chetopa, aged 82 years, 5 months and 11 days.

Rev. Goodmon united with the Freewill Baptist church in early manhood and was ordained as a minister of that church in 1864. He came to Labette County in 1867, and not finding a church of his own denomination, he united with the Old Christian or New Light Church and was a minister in that church until 1879.
He then moved to Greenwood County, where he again united with the Freewill Baptist Church. He served as a minister in this church at different places in Kansas and Indian Territory until 1899, when, on account of the infirmities of old age, he gave up the ministry and settled in Chetopa, where he resided since.
He was married to Luanna Yokley in July 1841. To this union 9 children were born, all living to be grown and married. The wife and five children have gone before him. The four children who survived are, M. L. (Marcus Layfayette) of Olive, I. T., Mrs. Santford Spurgeon of Montana, KS, Mrs. Thomas Clark of Chetopa, and George M. Goodmon of Altoona, KS. He also leaves 34 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. There were five generations represented at his funeral. He was married to the wife who survives him Aug. 11, 1892.
Rev. Goodmon was a kind husband, a loving father and a friend to all. He was a man of wide sympathies and was ever ready to lend any assistance in his power to those who were in need.
He leaves behind the record of a good life and his death is sincerely regretted by all who knew him.
Funeral services were held Monday morning, Aug. 7, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Thomas W. Clark, conducted by Rev. Williams and the remains were laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery.
