Sarah "Sallie" Slater was born in Virginia in 1823 and married my G-Grandfather, Basil Derry in 1841. They were married for 10 years. Sallie died in 1851 along with two of their children, Carlisle and William. I do not know how they died. It is likely that a disease took them, possibly cholera, small pox or even typhoid. Sarah was the sister of Anderson Slater, who married Basil's younger sister (my G-G-Aunt), Mary Jane in 1843.
Sarah was only 28 when she died.

ii. Rachel Jane, born 1844, died after 1880. She married WILLIAM ALEXANDER. William served along side Basil and Basil's future Brother-in-law, John Jacob Weidenhamer III, in the 84th Illinois Infantry during the Civil War.
iii. Nancy Elizabeth, born 1846, died, 1871. She married RUBIN ALEXANDER, William's brother.
iv. Carlisle, born 1848, died 1851. Carlisle was likely named after Basil's younger brother, Carlisle, born in PA in 1824.
v. William, born 1851, died 1851.
