Clyde J. Davis, 90, of Austin, formerly of Lockhart and Canyon Lake, passed away October 26, 1998, at home in Austin, Texas.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Madie Virgie Davis; sons Joe Bill Davis and wife Irene Richter Davis, and Edward Allen Davis and wife, Helna Field Davis, all of Austin; daughters, Betty Sue Wright, of Farmers Branch, and Frances Carol Roberts and husband, Ross Buford Roberts, of Austin. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Henry Davis; his mother, Cynthia Ada Bost Davis; his brothers, Samuel Hons Davis and Joseph Leslie Davis; sisters, Maggie Alma Colwell and B.T. Randal.
He was born September 24, 1908, at Coleman County, Texas. In addition to farming, he learned carpentry at an early age. He married Madie Miles, of Harmony Grove, Caldwell County, on May 19, 1929. In the early 1930s, they moved to Lockhart, where he was employed by the Texas Highway Department for over 39 years. he also farmed and lived on acreage just northwest of Lockhart for several years during his tenure with the Highway Department. He was Maintenance Supervisor of work crews for Caldwell and Hays Counties. They moved to their retirement home, which he and Madie built at Canyon Lake, Texas, in the 1970s. In November 1992, they moved to Austin to be near three of their children. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and anything involving the outdoors.
Clyde was very active in the Lochart, Texas, and Canyon Lake, Texas, Masonic Lodges, A.F. & A.M. he served as Worshipful Master and District Deputy Grand Master while in Lockhart. He was a Charter and Life Member of the Canyon Lake Masonic Lodge. He was also a Lifetime Certificate holder. He also served as Worthy Patron of both the Lockhart and Canyon Lake O.E.S. Clyde was the recipient of his 50-year membership pin from the Masonic Lodge while a member of the Canyon Lake Lodge.
He will be remembered for his compassion, hospitality and the respect he earned from all who knew him. He readily shared both his worldly goods and his understanding of human nature. He will be remembered lovingly by all of those whose lives he touched.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, October 28, 1998, in the Chapel of the Eeds Funeral Home, with Reverend Gordon Hightower officiating. Interment will follow in the Lockhart City Cemetery under the auspices of the Canyon Lake Masonic Lodge, A.F. & A.M.
