Della McDowell Thompson passed away on July 7, 2011. She was born December 24, 1929.
Mrs. Thompson retired from Oktibbeha County Hospital as a switchboard operator in 2005 after 24 1/2 years of service. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Esther Sunday School class and the Young at Heart. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and she also loved her friends. She loved her Lord.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Thompson; her mother, Hilda Coleman McDowell; her father, Lee McDowell; a brother, Terrell McDowell; and two sisters, Kathryn Beck and Mary Jane Jones
She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Devereaux (Brian) of Starkville, MS; one granddaughter, Tabitha Powell (Harvey) of Starkville, MS; one grandson, Gregory Vaughan of Starkville, MS; two step-grandchildren, Brian J. Devereaux of Birmingham, AL and Scott Devereaux of Hattiesburg, MS; seven great grandchildren, Kenneth and Michael Powell of Starkville, MS, Stormie Vaughan of Moulton, AL, Savannah and Clover Whitefoot of Hattiesburg, MS, and Emma and Avery Devereaux of Birmingham, AL; three sisters, Elsie Todd (Lee) of Hattiesburg, MS, Margie Grantham (Pete) of Athens, TX and Donna Sexton of Clinton, MS; one brother, Myron McDowell (Lesia) of Dayton, TX; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Mrs. Thompson was Saturday, July 9th from 5-7 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, MS. Funeral services were Sunday, July 10th at 2 p.m. at
Calvary Baptist Church in Starkville. Dr. Grant Arinder conducted the service. Burial was in Concord Cemetery in Ackerman, MS.
Pallbearers are Roger Shivers, Paul Welch, Larry Mann, Terry Bridges, Jeff Willers, and Jimmy McCully. Honorary Pallbearers are Billy Taylor, Bill Stacy, Doug
