Catherine C. Althoff, 81, of Greeley passed away March 21, 2013 after a long battle with cancer. She was born August 5, 1931 to Leo Francis and Gertrude (Cullen) Chambers in Evanston, IL.

Catherine was born and raised in Evanston, Illinois. It was her junior year of high school when the family moved to Edina, MN. After graduating from high school, she attended the University of Colorado where she studied Education and earned her Bachelor's Degree. After college and for the first few years of her marriage, she was an elementary school teacher.

She married the love of her life, John J. Althoff on July 30, 1955 in Edina, MN. They had met on a blind date, set up by a friend of John's and a friend of Catherine's who were dating at the time. Immediately after marrying, they headed west to Denver for a year and then chose Greeley to be their home. Catherine was the ultimate home-maker to her family who always came first. When her children were school-age, she once again took up teaching and was teacher and then Director of the First Congressional Church Preschool for over 24 years. After her retirement she remained a tutor for many years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Alpha Phi, PEO, Panhellenic, WTK and Questers.

Catherine enjoyed golf, bridge, traveling, sewing, needlework, cooking, entertaining, and her many friends and family.

She is survived by her husband John J. Althoff, Greeley; son John C. Althoff, Winter Park; daughters, Mary (Chris) Giblin, Denver; Margaret (Doug Johnson) Althoff, Ft. Collins; Jean Marie (Bruce) Thompson, Denver; sister Mary Alice Place, Sarasota, FL; grandchildren, John Patrick Giblin, C. Chambers Giblin, Jeffrey Johnson and Matthew Johnson.

She is preceded in death by her parents.
