Lenwood Carlton Adkins, 90, of Wirtz, passed away on Friday, March 25, 2016, after his battle with cancer.

He was born in Sandy Level, Virginia, to Boss Ewood, and Lou Jenny Gibson Adkins.

Lenwood spent his life doing what he loved. From driving trucks coast to coast, for Roanoke Fruit and Produce, to go on and become a master mechanic, fixer of things and an inventor.

His talent and ingenuity through the years was relentless. GM magazine featured him in an article acknowledging his work and talent.

He will be remembered for his heart that knew no boundaries. He was one who was never defeated by a project, and his mind never stopped working.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Sally May Adkins, a sister, Louise Dunford of Roanoke, sister-in-law, Rachel Steele, of Wirtz, his 4 foster children; Robert, Ronald, Brenda, and Ursula, and his many nieces, nephews and their families. He loved all of them dearly.

His funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at the Sherwood Abbey Chapel of Sherwood Memorial Park, conducted by Billy Weaver. The family will receive friends at the Abbey from 1PM until service time.

The family would like to deeply thank all of his caregivers, including Tammy, Nancy and Ursula. And the nurses and staff of Good Samaritan Hospice, and request donations be made to them in lieu of flowers.
