Joyce Dean Armke, 81, passed away December 15, 2011 in Fredericksburg. Joyce was born in the Rocky Creek Community of Blanco County to E.O. and Vona Nowotny. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Barbara Mortimer, and foster son, Tim Daniels. For many years, Joyce served as Secretary for the Blanco Co. Fair and Rodeo Assn. She produced talent shows to benefit March of Dimes; spent 21 years influencing children as a Teachers Aid for Johnson City Elementary. "Movie Star" Joyce and her sister Helen had parts in the movie "True Woman" and they also baby-sat John Schneider's children. She enjoyed many years of back yard jam sessions and family get-togethers where she played guitar and sang. Joyce could sew anything without a pattern and she was also skilled at leather tooling, making belts, purses, and moccasins. She taught herself to knit in the last five years during which time she knitted a comforter for every child, grandchild, great grandchild, and she even made several extra for those to come. Joyce loved to do genealogical research. She enjoyed traveling with her husband once she overcame her fear of leaving home. Her children remember Joyce telling stories of spending summers with her Uncle Bill and Aunt Nora Heckel and how they gave her the nickname of "Pete". She was really passionate about traveling to her grandchildren's sporting events. Joyce's top priority was to take care of her husband and children. She was very proud of her marriage to Freddie. They were married on Thanksgiving day, in 1949 and celebrated their 62nd anniversary this year, again on Thanksgiving day. Visitation will be 3:00 to 6:00 PM Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Crofts Funeral Home in Johnson City where funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, December 19, 2011. Interment will follow in Rocky Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to March of Dimes OR the charity of your choice.
