Alton T. Adams, 77, of Arlington, died Friday, Oct. 30, 1998, at his summer home at Woodcliff near Fremont.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at the Arlington Community Church with the Rev. Shirley Schmidt and Rev. Richard Siders officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington. Visitation will continue at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to the service.
Military graveside services will be conducted by members of VFW Post 8332 and American Legion Post 71 of Arlington. Burial will be in the Arlington Cemetery.
Alton T. Adams was born Feb. 19, 1921, in Elyria, Ohio, to Eldon and Elizabeth (Tower) Adams. He grew up in Elyria and graduated form high school there in 1938. He received a bachelor of arts degree in industrial engineering from Ohio State. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from June 15, 1942 to March 31, 1946. He served in China, Burma, and the India Theatre. He achieved the rank of captain, and received the World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Medal with two Battle Stars and the Bronze Star Medal.
He was previously employed by General Motors in Columbus, Ohio, and McKay Machine in Youngstown, Ohio. He worked for Valmont Industries at Valley for 22 years as an industrial engineer. He retired in 1986.
On August 23, 1963, he married Beverly Riddell in West Virginia. The couple had been living in Arlington since 1966 and was a member of the Arlington Community Church. He had served on the Arlington Library Board and the Arlington School Board. He was a member of VFW Post 8332 of Arlington, Gideons, Experimental Aircraft Association and was a national judge for aerobatics.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly; two sons, Jeffrey and his wife, Robin Adams of Poland Ohio, and Greg Adams of El Paso, Texas; a daughter Alison Adams of Arlington; two stepsons, Kenneth Burns of Warren, Ohio, and Gary Burns of Arlington; a stepdaughter, Deborah (Mrs. Russell) Gibbs of Plymouth, Ind.; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials are suggested to the Arlington Auditorium Fund.
