Mrs. W.C. Endicott

Died, Jan. 25, 1923, at her home in Newberg, Oregon, Mrs. Mary Endicott, former pioneer resident of Joseph. Mary Bass Endicott was born in Illinois, December 15, 1850. When a child she moved to Buffalo, Missouri, where on Sept. 17, 1867, she was united in marriage to W.C. Endicott. In 1878 the Endicotts came with their family of little ones to the far west, arriving in Union county the fall of that year. There they made their home until 1892 shen they came to Lostine, Wallowa county. Later they lived for a time on a ranch on Prairie Creek and then moved to Joseph, where they lived until about tow years ago. They then went to Newberg to escape the severe winters an dbe nearer relatives. There in July of 1922 Mrs. Endicott suffered a paraletic stroke from which she never fully recovered. On Nov. 11, 1922, she had a second stroke which nearly proved fatal, and on Jan. 24, the third stroke came, after which she lived but a day.

Mrs. Endicott was the mother of twelve children, eleven of whom survive here. One son died in 1900. All were present at the funeral except Alaric, whose home is in Klamath Falls.

Three sons, Everett, Bert and Ira live near Joseph; John, a former resident of Joseph, now lives Boise; one daughter lives at Imbler, one at Parma, Idaho, and three daughters reside in Newberg.

Mrs. Endicott was a member of the M.E. church of Joseph and also of the Rebekah lodge, whose members attended the funeral in a body. She was a devoted wife and mother, a faithful friend. Many of her old friends accompanied the sorrowing family to the last resting place of their loved mother, after the funeral service at the M.E. church which was conducted by Rev. Young. The casket was covered with beautiful floral offerings.
