From the Knoxville News Sentinel 19 Feb 2007 ACRES, NORMAN CLIFTON - 80 of Helenwood, was called home to Heaven Saturday,February 17, 2007 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Born in Scott County, TennesseeJune 4, 1926, he was the son of the late Audney and Thelma Rosser Acres. Mr.Acres was a proud veteran of World War II and served as a CPL in Company "C", 9thInfantry with the 2nd division and was wounded in Germany on February 5, 1945.He received many awards including: a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and CombatInfantry Medal. Mr. Acres was elected as the first Veterans' Services Officer forScott County and has been a member of the American Legion Post #136 HonorGuard after his honorable discharge 59 years ago. Mr. Acres was a retiredCriminal Investigator for the 8th Judicial District and a former officer of FirstNational Bank of Oneida. Norman touched many lives as an unselfish civic andcommunity volunteer, giving many hours of service to such organizations as: theScott County Cancer Society, Advisory Boards of the First National Bank andOneida Vocational School, Tennessee Coal Safety Committee, Scott County HospitalBoard of Directors, Mountain Peoples' Health Clinics, Scott County LiteracyCouncil, Masonic Lodge- Shriner, Tennessee Oil and Gas Association, one of thefirst inductees into the Boys and Girls Clubs Hall of Fame and Life Member/PastPresident and was elected to all offices of the Tennessee Association ofRescue Squads. An outstanding role model, Norman served as a deacon in CalvaryMissionary Baptist Church, Huntsville, TN prior to his illness and was formerly adeacon of First Baptist Church of Huntsville, TN. Norman gave credit for allhis accomplishments to his personal Savior Jesus Christ and to God for keepinghim safe and allowing him to live a full life of service with the ability togive back to the community he loved. In addition to his parents, Norman waspreceded in death by: sister, Iona Hammond and husband Claude; brother, ThomasAcres; sister-in-law, Melba Acres. Norman is survived by: his loving wife of 56years, Pauline Sexton Acres; loving father to: Arthur Acres, Paula Davidsonand husband Kenneth, Linda Lloyd and husband Jim, Tammie Burchfield and husbandSteve; loving grandfather to: Bryon Davidson and wife Chrissy, Lana Robertsand husband Aaron, Loren Huddleston and wife Tara, Courtney Burchfield andKatelyn Burchfield, loving great grandfather to: Bryon Davidson, II, Kloee King andMaleia Secton; brothers, Robert Acres and wife Delores, Johnny Acres, PhilipAcres and wife Brenda, David Acres and wife Paulette; sisters, JosephineNitzschke and husband Harold, Phyllis Acres, Pat Chambers and husband Junior. Healso leaves many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Funeralservices will be conducted Wednesday, February 21 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Jones &Son Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Smith and Rev. David Acres officiating.Masonic services will be conducted by the Oneida Masonic Lodge #695 at 12:30 p.m.,prior to the funeral service at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in the CarsonMemorial Park with Full Military Honors conducted by the American Legion Post #136of Oneida. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5 until 9 p.m.at Jones & Son Funeral Home.
