Dr. Frank John Baker, 63, died January 29, 2010, at his residence in Vidor.
He was born July 29, 1946 in San Antonio, Texas to Bruce and Alice (Barrera) Baker. A resident of the area since 1984, he graduated from Lawton High School in Lawton, Oklahoma in 1964, Oklahoma State University in 1969, and earned his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1973. Following his internship in Internal Medicine in 1974, he completed his residency in 1977 at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio where he also completed his fellowship in Infectious Diseases in 1981. He entered into private practice in Infectious Diseases and Internal Medicine in July 1984. He was a member of the American College of Physicians, Infectious Disease Society of America, Texas Society of Internal Medicine, American Society of Internal Medicine, and the Society of Hospital Epidemiologists. He was a Texas Master Naturalist, Texas Master Gardener, and a member of Native Plant Society of Texas. He proudly served his country in the United States Army where he received the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Commendation Medal, Flight Surgeon Badge, and his M16 Rifle Expert Badge.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Bennon Baker; mother, Alice Barrera Baker of Oklahoma City; sons, Matthew Baker of Houston and Neil Baker of Austin; daughter, Meredith Isaac Wells of Falls Church, Virginia; sister, Barbara Baker Van Deman of St. Louis, Missouri; brothers, Robert Baker of Bethany, Oklahoma and Bruce A. Baker, Jr. of Lawton, Oklahoma; granddaughters, Ryleigh and Savannah Baker; and grandson, Jacob Baker.
A gathering of his family and friends will be Tuesday, February 2, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Broussard’s, 1605 N. Major Drive, Beaumont.
