Margery was born in the latter part of 1755 in Mabe parish, Cornwall, the second of ten children in the family of Thomas & Mary Spargo. Her parents had married in Mabe early in the 1750's during the period of 1743-1753 for which the Mabe marriage records are missing. Consequently her mother's maiden name and date of marriage are unknown. She was baptized at Mabe 24 Feb 1758 but her burial record states she was 76 in July 1832 which corresponds to birth in early 1756 or late 1755. Another fact which gives credence to an earlier birth than 1758 is her Aug 1772 marriage, which was only 14 years, six months after her baptism.

Her first marriage was to 27-year-old Charles Halvoso at Mabe on 24 August 1772. They settled in Mabe and by 1784 had brought forth 2 daughters and 3 sons. The two youngest were sons and were the only two to live long enough to marry and have families.

Her husband Charles died on 13 Feb 1785 and was buried at Mabe.

Margery next married 44-year-old widower James Kestle at Mabe on 13 Dec 1791. James had four children by his first marriage and he and Margery had a son, William in 1792. This child died on 12 May 1793 and James himself died 29 October of the same year.

Margery's third husband was Edward Ackerly, another widower, with five children and 48 years old when they married at Stithians on 21 Nov 1797. Nicholas Spargo, Margery's 20-year-old nephew, signed as one of the witnesses. Edward and Margery lived together another 25 years but had no children.

Edward Ackerly was buried at Mabe on 25 Aug 1822.

Margery was buried there on 22 July 1832. Her descendants, through her son Charles Halvoso, would be settled as stone cutters in Rhode Island by 1873 and in the early twentieth century would spread to Vermont, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.
