MARLYN W. AITKEN
Marlyn W. Aitken, 59, of Wabasha died early Saturday evening at St. Elizabeth Hospital. He was born June 4, 1929 to Wallace and Helen Aitken in Lake City, MN.
He married Elaine Glaus of Plum City, WI on Jan. 31, 1931 in Eau Claire, WI. He was Chief of Police for the city of Lake City, MN from 1930 to 1933. At the time he was the youngest chief in Minnesota. He then was a Deputy Sheriff for Wabasha County until 1964. For the past 24 years he was the manager of the Wabasha Sand, Gravel and Ready Mix Company.
He was elected for three terms on the Wabasha City Council and was also a volunteer fireman for twenty years for Lake City and Wabasha. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wabasha.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine; his mother, Helen Aitken of Lake City; four sons, Dan, Tim and Jeff all of Wabasha and Don of Lake City; four sisters, Arlene Clare of Lake City, Lois Haglund of Oronoco, MN, Joyce Barringer of Ingleside, IL and Ruth Mitchell of Red Wing. He was preceded in death by two daughters, one brother and his father.
Funeral services were held at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church on Tuesday, November 23 at 2 p.m. with Rev. John Unnasch officiating. Burial was in the st. John Cemetery in Lake City. Abbott Wise funeral home was in charge of the arrangements where a prayer service was held Monday evening.
Pallbearers were Roger Haglund, James Lancaster, Bud Meyer, William Cassidy, Larry Halik, and Carl Mickow. Honorary pallbearers were the retired firemen of Wabasha.
