Ronnie was born to Carl Fred Frick and Ruth Jeannette Brewington Frick. He lost his mother when he was two years old and his father three years later. Sometime after that he went to live with his Aunt Mary Christina Brewington Griffin and her husband Lee Warner Griffin, where he was raised as their own son. Ronnie attended Kearny Mesa High School in San Diego, California and in his 1957 year book it said "Ronald Frick had two majors, science and industrial arts. His birthplace is Cleveland, Ohio, and he was kept busy with cross country, track, Bi-Chem-Phy and Drama." Ronnie married Pamela Dean Casey and the couple had three children. The couple divorced and a few years later he married Barbara Jean.
