Mrs. Ollie Dovie Cook Ashby, age 93 of Silsbee, our beloved sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, went to meet her Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ on January 15, 2004 at Silsbee Oaks Health Care. Mrs. Ashby was born October 12, 1910 in Percilla. Mrs. Ashby was the daughter of Luther Thomas Cook and Malissie Ferguson Cook. Losing her mother to illness when she was five years old Mrs. Ashby and her six siblings were reared by her father and her beloved stepmother Jessie Mae Driskell Cook, who played a significant role in her life. Picking cotton for the family cotton gin, she learned in life how to work hard, and went on to college where she received her teaching certificate from Sam Houston State Teachers College in Huntsville and then taught school in Augusta and Kennard. Not long after Mrs. Ashby married R.E. (Jack) Ashby in 1933, they made there home in Crockett where they opened a wholesale grocery and dry goods store. In the mid-50s, they moved the family to Lufkin where they also opened a wholesale dry goods business. Mrs. Ashby later went to work for J.C. Penny Company where she was manager of the drapery and fabric department until her retirement. Mrs. Ashby's husband retired from Lufkin Motors where he was a car salesman. They were long time members of the First United Methodist Church in Lufkin. Mrs. Ashby lived a full and relatively healthy life and will be missed by family and friends who knew her as having such a quiet, gentle spirit, while loving a good laugh. Mrs. Ashby loved her family and friends so much, and was so very proud of each one. Mrs. Ashby will be missed by all that knew her.Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law Marsha and Arnold Hamilton, of Lumberton, Billie J. and Victor Lindamood, of Austin; sister Ella Marie Cook Ward, of Weatherford; brother J.M. Mom, you were indeed like a sunflower . . . bright and cheery every day of your life. You were THE BEST MOM EVER! No one can take your place, and we miss you MUCH! Love you!

You are not forgotten, loved one, nor will you ever be; as long as life and memory last, we will remember thee. We miss you now, our hearts are sore. As time goes by, we'll miss you more. Your gentle face, no one can fill your vacant place.
