Herbert was the son of Herbert BOOTH and Martha WAINWRIGHT. His father served in South Africa with the 1st South Staffordshire Regiment and later in England with the 4th South Staffordshire Regiment.
His grandfather was Anthony Clarke BOOTH VC, who was awarded the Victoria Cross in 1879 for his bravery during the Battle of Intombe River, South Africa.
Herbert's brother Harold Stanley BOOTH died on 1 Jul 1916 at The Somme, France.
